About Us

Lola wins our hearts

We went to the West Los Angeles Shelter and were just browsing, possibly looking for a young 1-5 year-old dog to keep Buster company. Lola was only about 6 months old at the time. She whined at us and then sat sweetly as we approached her kennel. As I asked aloud “I wonder how she gets along with other dogs?” Lola turned to the pup sharing her kennel and gave her a lick, square on the face. A-dor-a-ble! She answered my question and won our hearts immediately.

Lola begins traveling

Lola began her traveling career at age one when we drove from Southern California to live in Wisconsin for the summer. Since then she has traveled extensively, exploring cities, beaches, forests, mountains, The Great Plains, and The Sonoran Desert.

In Phoenix a young dog came to our house every morning to play. She tagged along on walks for weeks and became very comfortable with us. Soon, I received a call about an off-leash dog without a collar. Since the mystery pup looked very similar to Lola, the callers thought it might be our dog. They wanted to return her to us instead of calling the pound. When we found out that this cute, sweet pup was going to be taken to the shelter, our wish came true and we officially adopted her into the family. We settled on the name Mia – cute and sweet, it fit her personality perfectly.

Now Mia and Lola are best buddies. They eagerly walk side-by-side, sniff the same bushes and often do their business in synch. After their morning walk they play a crazy game of chase and tug-o-war. Despite the five-year age difference they are two peas in a pod!

In 2015 we had a career opportunity abroad: A move to China! This was Lola and Mia’s first experience in international travel. We lived in Chengdu, a city with over 14 million residents. Needless to say, there were A LOT of adjustments and learning opportunities. Check out our blog to read about our travels and get tips for DIY dog food, nail clipping, and more.
